After a nice dinner of fall veggies (acorn squash and local corn), we chatted, drank, and settled into sleep until the late hour of...5:30 am.
Let me say to you parents out there...how on earth do you not pass out at 10am? Dear Asa, you do get up early. I could hear poor Marcey drowsily shushing the little man until he was fully awake, and Eliza was making coffee in my kitchen, God bless her. She had far more wits than I did at that hour.
A short time later we were dressed, showered, and my apartment developed a sudden case of giant insect syndrome!
It was a relatively cute insect, so we brought it with us to an early breakfast at my favorite bakery. The scones are to die for, and the muffins delicious. We met another creature of the night, a kitty named Lydia, and Asa showed off his high five-ing skillz.
Later we met Sarah and Kohta at the ferry and walked around Salem, window shopping at the local yarn shop, the funny gadget store, the artist's shop on Pickering Wharf... This is what I do all the time, and it was great to have company. :)
It was a VERY windy day. Very windy. The word Blustery just doesn't cut it. It actually getting ridiculous. Thank goodness the sun warmed the day.
Asa was doing pretty well considering he hadn't had a chance to be a 1 year old in a while, so when we came across the local playground, he got to let loose. On swings!!
Sarah got into the act too.
As did her bodyguard, Kohta-san.
Oh, and we also found a little something for you, Kate. =)

Later we ducked into Jaho for some fancy coffee drinks, including...
A Hikari Syphon Coffee for Sarah and Kohta
And a Turkish Espresso for Eliza, leading to a fortune read by Marcey. Do you see the wolf?
The night was capped off with a very generous dinner courtesy of Sarah and Kohta at The Lyceum in Salem. The Lyceum was the site where the first long distance telephone call was made by Alexander Graham Bell to Boston. (The official first call was made from Boston to New York). This restaurant is impeccable. Built on an apple orchard owned by one of the accused witches, many order the apple martini, made with caramel vodka and apple brandy. It tastes like an unsweetened apple with a creme brulee finish.
Two apple martinis and a manhattan, please.
The food was amazing, and definitely worth another visit. Or six. I would never have guessed chicken could taste so good.
More pictures of our adventures are here. Thanks for visiting, guys! It was great having adopted family at my place. Enjoy!
And with that, we've become "and family". Parental loss of identity. sigh.
ReplyDeleteyou're welcome for the pot of coffee, tho - it's not wits, it's a complete necessity at 5:30am.
What a great post - good to see so many of my favorite people together! Good to that you managed to keep the Bee so busy! Loved the cat on the leash!
