Greg and I have been marking up this boiler for repair for about 3 years now, Greg himself for 10. We have NEVER seen this before....
Somehow Greg's red pen (we figured out that it's his handwriting) has left a permanent mark. Keep in mind that this boiler runs at about 1200 degrees F inside, with a tornado of ash and limestone punishing the tube walls. We figure either eaten away the ceramic coating, or seeped into the ceramic coating and blew it off from the inside when the boiler started. Regardless, quite an unexpected find!!
the late great Asimov could have done something with that. Reminds me of "By the Waters of Babylon".
