Lunch at the Nubble Light

Has anyone else noticed the weather lately?  Like, the fact that it's been a disco inferno outside?  A week ago, New England got a taste of what the rest of the country has been feeling and it was MISERABLE.  95 degrees plus 80% humidity.  And me without air conditioning.  Not that I want AC.  I don't.  I'm blessed to live in an area where my utility bills take a vacation in the spring, summer and fall, and it's just not necessary 90% of the time.

However.

It was damn hot.

Thursday through Sunday were just awful, compounded by Thursday night temperatures not dipping below 81 degrees.  Friday I gave the cats a bath.  Yes, I did.  And they were only mildly annoyed.  Pilgrim was actually purring.  I even let them outside a while to show them it wasn't my fault.  Nights were spent at the shore at the Salem Willows, where the temperature was 10 degrees cooler.  The entire town was there.  It was the only place to be.  We were also blessed with a spectacular fireworks display.  We think someone in Marblehead got married.

At one point Mom suggested I fill my bathtub with water, dip my feet in and pretend it's the ocean.  I reminded her I lived a mile from the real thing.

The respite arrived Sunday, but the humidity lingered.  Time for a spur-of-the-moment road trip to York, Maine for my annual lobster consumption and a laze on the rocks.

Mmmm...
Fox's Restaurant is one of my favorites, in the shadow of the Nubble Lighthouse, where I took a wonderful post-lunch rest.

Warm Rocks + Cool Breeze = Happy Jen

I also got to play with my iPhone camera, testing the panoramic stitching app.  It was fun, but needs perfecting.  Click the pic for a larger view.

Everyone knows you can't visit York without going to the Goldenrod for fresh taffy.

The pulling machine in the front window.

Gorgeous.
Thankfully, the weather's calmed down significantly since last week.  We had a couple of 75 degree days with rain, which gave me a gorgeous zucchini from the garden.  The best part is that it was only July, so there's still plenty of summer left to enjoy.  I loved the break, but I'm not ready for fall just yet.  :)
