We started off with an impressive list of options, which was good. It's nice to have a multiple choice exam when looking at ideas. The weather was awesome, as it was almost everywhere. It was sunny, hot, and summery. I got color in record time. Here's the roundup for Part 1.
We started our days at home lounging with breakfast on the deck and ended our days watching fireflies at night. On Saturday we headed off to run some errands, passing Santa along the way. Turns out he lives in Jeff's neighborhood!
After touring the flea market (got some nice Pink Floyd LP's!), we wound up pulling some weeds, brainstorming home remodeling, and voicing over the chipmunk running across the street, under someone else's deck, then back again in great hurry. If Honey Badger don't care, Chipmunk cares a LOT. And he really should switch to filters. (You had to be there.)
After a nap, to the Outlets we went! To find Jeff a formal shirt for emergencies. This was the exciting part for me. We didn't find much, but Old Navy proved really fun. First, an unexpected find in the clearance section...
Then later, an unexpected find in the display!
I didn't see him at first...Jeff says the look on my face was priceless.
"What are you looking at?" "Whatever THEY'RE looking at!"
After we stopped laughing, we toured Jeff's alma mater, Grove City College, a hyper-conservative school.
The Grove City Chapel: Attendance required twice a week.
The courses were out-of-control hard and the sexes segregated. The girls could meet boys on the quad and in classes, but they could not visit the boys dorm for more than an hour with the rule "four on the floor and one in the door", meaning all four feet must be on the floor and the door must be kept open with someone's foot. Guards attended the women's dorm and gentlemen callers waited downstairs as the ladies made their grand entrance. I found it high class and hyper-elegant, but extremely stuffy.
But there were secluded areas... Rainbow Bridge is apparently THE PLACE to take a lady, just out of sight of the quad. Jeff had never taken a girl here, until now. :)
We returned home and watched some of Jeff's favorite TV, ate grilled kielbasa from his chiminea, and watched fireflies.
Sunday held more adventures, prefaced by a suitably patriotic strawberry shortcake by yours truly.
Up next: The Big Butler Fair 2011!
I always love your PA jaunts! Had no idea Santa summered in Butler! And he even wears red shorts! No reindeer, huh?
ReplyDeleteAnd that mannequin looked just like Jeff. Amazing what they can do with plastic these days.
Grove City, huh? What year? Aaron Bromage, son of my BFF Becke, of Paul and Becke fame; graduated from Grove City, as did his wife Gail. I attended their wedding at precisely that beautiful but rather stuffy chapel, the year Eliza was in Spain. I think perhaps they'd already been out of school a year, possibly even two. Remind me to tell you sometime about the "sippy cups" Becke and I had for the reception! Can't wait for part II....
Great post, Jen. The visiting rules you describe match with my mom's description of the rules at University of Maine back when she and my dad were students in the late 60s. My mom learned to drink coffee for plausible deniability that she was loitering in the dining halls just to meet up with my dad.
