We rounded off the weekend looking for alpacas (fail), looking for the Butler Heritage Center (fail) and hitting the brewery in Slippery Rock (WIN!). The beer sampler was spectacular, beginning with the Breakfast Blend (of course!).
Jeff got a fancy new dress shirt and tie, and we went home to bask in our successes. They continued with a fishing trip to the idyllic pond at the end of his street. Look at that sky. And I haven't been fishing in 20 years. I was excited to catch two big-mouth bass. They're hungry suckers. The fly was the size of a cockroach!
We ended the day with July 4th fireworks from Jeff's front yard, sponsored by his legally blind uncle Herb. The blind guy brought fireworks... what could possibly go wrong?? :)

The party ended with Jeff nearly getting hit in the eye with a spinner. Then one leg of a firework landed in the bushes next to his house. We kept to sparkers after that. But *everybody* was doing it, including one heck of a display just over the hill. I think we had the best seats in the house. And no traffic!
On Tuesday, we had lunch at Jeff's parents' house:
...with a real treat for me:

| SEEDED WATERMELON!!! |
I was so excited I had 3 pieces. I'm very passionate about seeded watermelons....they taste better, the look better, and they predict the future. I mean really, how else are you gonna find out who you're gonna marry?
Check out other pics
here. Thanks to all for a very nice weekend. It was very theraputic!
Not sure which looks more refreshing, the watermelon or the beer! I love watermelon with seeds, and can't find it here. I'm filing away, under "words of wisdom",,, "Never set off firecrackers with a blind man!"
ReplyDeleteSeeded watermelon? Awesome! I need some for Asa, about this time next year, so I can teach him to spit. After all, he has to learn to make seeds stick to Grampa! ;)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good time was had by all!
Mom-kate, the brewery (site of the beer picture) occasionally has watermelon flavored beer so you won't have to decide.
ReplyDeleteYou mean to tell me the middle of the country is the only place that still has seeded watermelon?! amazing.
Jeff, sorry about the delay... but yes, apparently you are the last great bastion of seeded watermelon... and possibly of yellow corn! Watermelon beer, huh? I've homebrewed pineapple beer, which was pretty tasty... watermelon might be pretty light, even for me.
