I can't say that I have the most positive feelings on this adventure. Which probably means I shouldn't do it, but I'm doing it anyway. I really do think Oakley will go for this. Pilgrim on the other hand...we'll see.
I've also never trained anything. Not really, anyway. So this will be interesting. The book lays down several simple steps and warning signals when to slow down/back up if things start to go wrong. For example, it's very important to verify that both cats have "performed" before moving on. The general process is as follows:
Step 1: Put the box next to the toilet. (I even got them a NEW box for this little adventure)
Step 2: Slowly raise the box to toilet height.
Step 3: This is the one I'm dreading...remove the box, cover the toilet with saran wrap and add some kitty litter. Try try try not to forget this at 3am when the human has to use the toilet too. This seems to be where most cats bail... we'll find out in a couple weeks. If everything goes as the book says (HA!), I'll have a very different pet scenario by Halloween. Again, why am I doing this?? I can only imagine it's because I need a life. Y'all have my permission to smack me if I try to train them to use a can opener. Oakley is getting fat.
So with a slightly tenuous drumroll.....
Day 1: Here we go...!!

And to think that we'd merely been waiting for a photo of proud Jen out for a stroll with Pilgrim and Oakley trotting along on their leashes! Now when y'all take that walk, you can stop at convenient porta-potties along the way!
ReplyDeleteNow, if you can train them to flush as well, you'll REALLY be in business!
ReplyDeleteI would much prefer to teach the cats how to do the dishes.
ReplyDeleteIf they learn to flush, I can never have a house, because Oakley will flush all day long! She loves the toilet. =p
ReplyDeleteyou mean like that youtube cat? the one who ran up his owner's water bill? ;)
ReplyDeleteMarce is right, tho - teaching the cats to do dishes would be much better.
OK, Jen... I believe we're at day 7... Inquiring minds want to know! I suggested to E. yesterday that since Asa and Oliver are such buddies, training them together might not be such a bad thing. She immediately told Asa that "Granna's gonna come potty train you!"
ReplyDeleteHAA! that's great! She said the same thing about changing diapers when I sent her the iShit bib. :)
