Travels and more travels

Oh man, I leave for a while and the blogging interface is all different!  Here's some catch up, since I'm finding more fun stuff to do in the meantime.

Late August:  Yes, I am talking about 2 months ago... or really, 6 weeks ago.  I finally, 10 years too late, got my act together and went to visit beloved GRANDMA up in Nova Scotia.  I almost don't want to blog too much, because she is so precious to me.  I didn't take as many pictures as you'd think, either...because Grandma is one to be experienced, not preserved on film.  But of course, there are some pictures of our adventures anyway.  :)

Cape Breton: The Cabot Trail
Beginning of September:  Guess who visited!  My friend Kate came up from CT and spent the day with me in Rockport at Halibut State Park.  We had lots of fun:

And got pooped on by a sea gull.  This just became one of my favorite pictures of Kate.  Ever.  :)

More pics here.

End of September:  Went to Scrubgrass for another outage with Jeff.  It was an annoying outage, but I worked 57 hours of overtime in a week and caught up with plant folks I hadn't seen in 18 months...so my student loans are on the way out and my car's in the shop.  Moolah moolah.  Oh, and Jeff sent me this pic, saved from my first outage with him in November 2008.  I was taking pictures in the plant for him, and he had just given me my first welding lesson.  He was an excited and energetic person.  I was touched he was so excited to teach me something I was afraid to do.

This past Saturday:  After returning from 109 hours on the job, I slept.  And slept.  And slept some more.  Then I went shopping!  Got some nice sweaters from Kohl's.  Then I received an unexpected delivery- Jess's friend Gene has two end-tables that need some work.  I rushed home to re-introduce myself, and I'm happy to report that they're coming along nicely.

This past Sunday:  Took myself on a tour of my old stomping grounds and went apple picking in Stow.  I was going to try a new locale, but the first destination was so poorly organized and so overpriced I went back to Honey Pot Hill Orchards, which impressed me with it's latest upgrade:  Kids with walkie talkies directing traffic to an easy-to-navigate grassy knoll.  I was still paying $15 for an $8 peck of empire apples, but this is autumn, dammit.  And I'm going to pick them from the tree.  And eat whatever doesn't fit in the bag on the way back to the car.  Yum....

I tried to get the cider donuts, but as much as I love them, I just couldn't convince myself to stand in that line.

More to be told soon.  This weekend holds more family tree updates and a lovely New Yorker brunch.  Until then!

  1. Yay! This is a great post, lots of fun pictures and faces from the past! Kate's usually pretty unflappable, but gull poop is no one's favorite styling gel.
Table owners Gene and Jenny are also great favorites of mine... give them my love, please!
Can't wait for more family tree stuff!
