It's spring!!!

I spent this and last weekend catching up on the apartment unloading.  Last weekend I got a great visit from the fearsome foursome, plus 2 (Kohta & Asa).  We might need to redress this name... the sexy sextet?  The Supreme Six-some?  The Hallowed Half-Dozen?  Ideas are welcome.

Anyway, Sarah and Kohta gave me some wonderful additions to my new home:  A much needed air mattress, fun jersey sheets, and Sarah's Papisan!  I've wanted one since college and Sarah was doing some spring cleaning so I lucked out!  Asa had some fun in the big scoop of a chair.

Eliza and Marcey got me some wonderful herbs!  I have since found out that my cats enjoy chives, but not basil or lavender.  Weird.  We chatted and nested and Kohta made me and Sarah a fabulous risotto dinner.

The next day I got to show Sarah and Kohta around the power plant!  We looked inside an operating boiler (what's 2000 degrees between friends?), looked at the pulverizer, and took some really fun pictures around the GE turbine, who Sarah's dad used to work for.  A quick lunch at the Lobster Shanty and S&K had to get back to their regularly scheduled lives... but I hope we do that again soon.  It was a great weekend!

And Oakley went to the vet.  She's fine, but the trip sans carrier was an adventure for all.  People give you a LOT of dirty looks when you don't put your cat in a carrier.  Especially the boxer owners.  But she was a perfect pet the whole time.  I had her in a vice grip, she just observed the institution, and by the end, she calmly sat in the front seat all the way home.  It was the closest thing to having a dog yet.

This weekend was amazing!  The weather!  A!  MAZ!  ING!  Sunny, warm, fabulous.  I took the opportunity to edit my front yard.

For those of you not familiar with the "before" episode of "Jen's front yard", it looked something like this:

No really.  I'm going to hurt tomorrow.

I've noticed that nobody's cared to do much with the outside in a long while.  The vines growing on my neighbors house have CROSSED THE DRIVEWAY to climb my house.  They're no longer welcome in my yard, thank you very much.  I also learned that the front hedge is held up by a rope tied to the front porch.

I also let Oakley outside for a while.  She LOVES IT.  She follows me around while I prune and rake, and investigates all the sights and smells and tastes (which I hope will not end up on my carpet later).  Pilgrim, on the other hand, wants NOTHING TO DO WITH OUTSIDE.  I take him out, he runs back in.  I leave the door open, he jumps onto my laundry rack and takes a nap.  Cats... some are hunters, some are sleepers.  Some are both.

Until next time!

  2. That is some editing job! That rope holding back the front hedge almost looks like it might once upon a time have been part of a hammock! Keep up the good work, girl...lookin' good!

  3. How did your muscles react after the yard work?
I spent 3 hours weeding yesterday and didn't wake up stiff as a board. I love being outside and as I write the rain is just pouring down. We will don our raingear because our dog is looking at us pleadingly.
