I had many great adventures for my birthday last week. At the ripe old age of 35 ... gawd that looks awful in print... let me rephrase. At the ripe age that I AM... it was nice to have someone very sweet come over and share it with me.
Jeff arrived Friday night to the winter wonderland called New England's snowiest January ever. Per Jeff's way, Saturday started with a winter walk. I showed him where some creative neighbors decorated the snowbanks with colored sand!
Then off to Boston for a quick tour before Blue Man Group with Brendan and Karyn.

| Jeff on the Longfellow (Salt and Pepper Shaker) Bridge |
| We ran into a quick Egyptian protest near the commons |
| And later... |
| Curious...You're an engineer too? |
| But what do you think about... |
| You, my friend, are an interesting fellow! |
| I know! You totally get me! |
| Snow Man... a true renaissance dude. |
| Since the pond with the swan boats was frozen, we had a rare opportunity for a closer look. |
| We thanked Mrs. Mallard in person for her hospitality. |
Sunday was my birthday and Jeff did it up right! Apple pancakes with candles...
| Um... |
| LOTS of candles!! |
Note to future birthday-pancake-makers... pancakes melt wax pretty good...You might want to sacrifice the top one!
After breakfast, we played in the snow and went for a nice skate on the Salem Common, where the town had put up an old skating rink they found in the Willows.
| Love those Gaiters, Marie! |
| Tic Tac Snoe! |
| And a quick walk to the beach! |
The afternoon was spent at the pottery studio in Beverly doing some glazing.
| Jeff Ross? |
We find out this week how they look!! After Jeff went home to his own snowy landscape, E & M threw me a party in Attleboro, with a more traditional candle-holder with hand-made truffle frosting! :)
And while I'm at it, a quick shout out to Dad, who turned 64 yesterday! He got a slide projector from yours truly...the eagerly awaited show involved planes, more planes, a couple airshow gun explosions, more planes, and people we couldn't recognize to save our lives. "This looks like a 50-year anniversary of some kind... I can guarantee you they're all dead, and I have no idea who they are." Heh. :)
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteDamn... missed it again!... We're sorry, Jen... you know we love you... we're just calendarially challenged. We'll make it up to you, promise!... and it won't involve setting fire to pancakes!
ReplyDeleteyou know you want birthday pancakes flambe.
ReplyDeleteHowever...
If you change your mind, I've got some great ideas on pancake candle placement. i'm pretty sure with some minor modifications i've got a pattern that will fit 36 candles on a standard panckake.
Hey, Jeff and Jen... spend next birthday here and we'll fire up those pancakes! I've also got a great recipe, thanks to my son-in-law Mike, for Apple Pie Flambe! It started out being unintentional, but he got a lot of mileage out of it!
ReplyDeleteJust got to viewing your blog. I heard about the pancake-cake....the picture is priceless.
ReplyDeleteThe tic-tac-snow was great..put the two of you together look out for something truly unique and creative.
